ART 5 - 2D
Teacher: Morgan Acheson
GRADE 5 QUARANZINES
Following an exploration of the history of zine-making, students in Morgan’s 5th grade Art classes learned how to construct a simple zine and use it as a platform in which to inspire others while developing their drawing skills and understanding of the principles and elements of design. Through constructive group critique, students navigated the process of creating their own zines and strengthening their voice as artists.
We welcome you to print your own copy of each zine layout as a means to learn from our incredible young artists and as an opportunity to hold their art in your hands.
OPEN STUDIO PROJECTS
Following their zine project, students in Morgan’s classes were presented with choice-based assignments under the concept of their studio class’s explorative Open Studio opportunities. Students had the choice of three prompts each week to complete with the materials available to them. Morgan’s students were encouraged to think creatively and to not limit themselves to traditional means of making art especially if their materials at home were limited. Prompts were accompanied by various artworks as a means to inspire and ranged from portraits using surprising materials and designing a letter from the alphabet to Goldsworthy inspired land art, song illustrations and more!
